Case II. -March 16th, 1872. Mr. — caught cold by changing his dress. For five days, there is a frequent desire to swallow saliva, but often cannot do it, and it then causes a choking in the throat (he can swallow food or drink). When this occurs, the heart beats quicker, and he feels weak, with difficulty breathing. At first, this came on only at night, but today it also occurs during the day. When lying on the right side, the heart feels suspended to the left ribs, and seems to be dragging them to the right side. This morning, pain as if the lower lobe of the right lung were adherent to the ribs. For three nights has only been able to sleep sitting up, because otherwise the saliva would not run down the throat. The heart's action is irregular and tumultuous, with a systolic murmur heard loudest at the apex. Gave one dose of kali carb. 4 m (Jenichen) at 10 p.m.
17th, 5 p.m. Slept well and could lie down last night; throat symptoms nearly gone today; heart quiet all night and ever since; no pain in chest; feels stronger. Auscultation shows the heart to be regular and calm, and the systolic murmur is less. Afterwards perfectly recovered.
